By virtue of size alone, these are among the most attractive sectors for mechanical and electrical engineers in Tenaris. Our professionals there are immersed in high technology and top of the line equipment dedicated to steel production – an engineer’s dream. A core part of our work is the manufacturing process: the chemical engineer will enjoy the steelworks, the metallurgical engineer the various heat treatment processes, the mechanical engineer will enjoy the hot rolling and threading sectors, while the electronic engineer will gain experience in the pipe inspection lines as will the mechanical and electrical engineers in maintenance.
Engineers who work with us must be able to combine the technical knowledge of processes and equipment with the ability to work as a team. They must also have the ability to lead and to encourage others towards the stringent production, maintenance, quality and safety objectives we uphold as a company. This mix should provide a gratifying challenge to any engineer who joins our team.
In this sense, we need people with a strong technical profile. But also, we will need the managerial competences to manage small mills, large mills as well as complete production facilities and large projects. The experience in Tenaris as well as the training provided by Tenaris University will help acquire these technical and managerial skills.
Also in this globalized world, it is fundamental to always be aware of what is going on in the industry, so we must be able to keep in touch with developments outside our company. We require the capacity to innovate and at the same time to understand market trends in the industry.
In summary, the industrial areas offer three main career paths. A newly recruited engineer can grow to be the head of a line or a plant, in the manufacturing or maintenance sectors. Or he/she can grow by going deep into the manufacturing processes to become a global expert in steelmaking, rolling, heat treatment, threading or any other of our processes. Finally if preferred, he/she can focus on the definition and design of the equipment and facilities needed to produce our products and thus develop a challenging career in our high level Engineering Department which is in charge of implementing all the capital investment programs that we need to keep Tenaris’s technological and operational leadership.
