High quality drill pipe and tool joints
Tenaris provides oil and gas customers with high quality drill pipe and tool joints for a wide variety of well profiles. Our complete offer includes corrosion-resistant and high-strength steel grades for demanding operations.
Our drill pipes are available with outside diameters (ODs) ranging from 2 3/8” to 5 7/8”. We offer E-75 to S-135 grades, in accordance with API Specification 5D and API Specification 7 as well as proprietary grades for more stringent requirements:
- Sour service grades: C95S and C105S
- High strength grades: S140 and S150
Our drill pipes are manufactured in an integrated production process where pipe bodies and tool joints are assembled through friction welding. Our product engineering capabilities allow us to work in partnership with our customers to create drill pipe to meet their specific needs.
We offer two high-torque application double shoulder tool joints: DSTJ™ and DSTJ™ ST. Our Wedge Series 500™ (WT) tool joints, renowned for their superior performance and durability, are also threaded on our drill pipe.
DSTJ™ tool joint
Our double shoulder connection has a smooth bore (pin ID and box ID are equal) and is interchangeable with the API tool joint (see illustration). It is manufactured in accordance with API Specification 7.
The main benefits of our DSTJ™ tool joint include:
- High torque resistance
- Suitability for drilling in sour environments
- Smooth bore
- Great durability and lower repair rate
- Interchangeability with API tool joint
- Better hydraulic performance
The DTSJ™ has been used extensively in the North Sea, and currently has more than 50% of the market share in the region.
DSTJ™ ST Series
The ST series of our DSTJ™ tool joint is suitable for deep wells as well as extended reach and horizontal drilling applications. It is available in two different versions: DSTJ™ ST39 and DSTJ™ ST58, which offer improved hydraulics and superior torque resistance in comparison with DSTJ™ NC38 and DSTJ™ 5-1/2FH respectively.
The DSTJ™ ST Series is not interchangeable with API tool joints.
WT tool joints
Our WT tool joints are the perfect choice for non-conventional drilling applications such as:
- Wells that require high torque resistance
- Horizontal and extended reach wells
- Drilling in wells with reduced diameters and high circulation rates
WT tool joints utilized in drilling activities are not intended to replace the API tool joint for conventional drilling.
