Tenaris provides double jointing services to oil and gas companies in order to reduce delivery and pipe laying times, which represents a large portion of the total CAPEX of an offshore development.
Our service is available for both offshore and onshore flowlines, as well as offshore risers using all laying methodologies, including reel laying, J-laying and S-laying methods. It consists of welding two standard lengths (typically between 38 ft and 42 ft) of pipe together to create a double joint approximately 80 ft long. In this manner, the number of welds and the offshore or spool base installation times are reduced two-fold. This guarantees important savings to the end user and laying contractor.
Double jointing is performed at our facilities using state-of-the-art welding methods and accurate non-destructive testing control through X-ray or automatic UT controls. After welding, each double joint is coated for thermal insulation or corrosion protection according to customer specifications. The coating of 80 ft double joints allows the use of half the field joints, resulting in additional savings for the overall project.
Double joints are pre-welded at the mill followed by coating prior to shipping. Upon arrival at the project site, the joints are ready for final assembly welding and reel installation.
