Tenaris to feature Wedge technology, US footprint at OTC

Tenaris will feature the latest enhancements to its Wedge Series of premium connections at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), April 30-May 3.

Tenaris is raising the bar set 35 years ago with the launch of the TenarisHydril Wedge series. It’s expanded portfolio of Wedge Series connections provide shale and offshore operators around the world best-in-class torque performance, shorter running times with reduced risk of rejects, and support from the company’s global industrial and service network.

On exhibit at booth #3114 will be TenarisHydril Wedge 623® RW, which stems from the well-established TenarisHydril Wedge 623® connection now with greater resistance to wear.  Design changes to the connection, which is suitable for severe deepwater and high pressure applications, feature an additional external metal-to-metal seal, offering unmatched compression ratings in an integral connection.

For oil and gas customers drilling longer laterals in shale wells, Tenaris is presenting TenarisHydril Wedge XP™ 2.0, a further evolution of TenarisHydril Wedge XP™, improving the connection’s performance capabilities and efficiency.  The connection provides twice as much operative torque than representative products available in the market today.  Modifications to the robust, high torque connection include an expanded service envelope for improved sealability, and upgrades for smoother runnability.

“How wells are drilled – from technology to techniques used – have evolved over the past few years to reduce costs and increase productivity.  Our Wedge Series is a sophisticated technology that has been serving the market for decades, and we’re pleased to present these enhancements to further support our customers in their operations,” said Luca Zanotti, Tenaris President, USA.

Experience the production of seamless pipe at Tenaris’s new plant in Bay City, Texas, through virtual reality goggles at booth #3114.  The mill, which incorporates a high level of automation and has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons of OCTG, has been increasing production since its started operations in late 2017.  The new mill complements Tenaris’s existing domestic welded manufacturing capacity.

With a complete product portfolio of seamless and welded pipe, and its growing domestic infrastructure, including new service centers in Texas and Oklahoma, Tenaris has been strengthening its Rig Direct® services. The business model includes technical support, pipe management and field services to streamline supply chain operations. Tenaris is currently providing Rig Direct® services to about 400 rigs, worldwide.

Tenaris will also be exhibiting a sample ring from its participation in Italian multinational oil and gas company Eni’s Zohr project, reportedly the largest gas field discovery in the Mediterranean Sea,  through its partnership with Petrobel, the company responsible for the field’s operations.  The deepwater natural gas reserve started producing less than 2.5 years after its discovery.  Tenaris is providing high-specification line pipe and accessories, and has been leveraging its project management and technical capabilities for the delivery of nearly 700 km of line pipe in sync with customer’s operations through cooordinated logistics among various Tenaris mills.
