Tenaris in Indonesia

Tenaris in Indonesia has its roots in the long-standing presence of PT Seamsless Pipe Indonesia Jaya (SPIJ), a leading company in the indonesian energy industry, and PT Hydril Indonesia (HYIN). SPIJ launched its seamless pipe production program in 1994 at its mill in Cilegon and two years later signed an agreement with Tenaris: their alliance prospered and led to full integration in 2009. Hydril inaugurated its Batam plant specializing in repairs and accessories in 1998, which became part of Tenaris in 2007 when it acquired Hydril’s operations worldwide. In December 2023, the pipe coating business unit of Mattr - Shawcor - joined Tenaris, and the integration adds nine coating plants to Tenaris's footprint, including TenarisShawcor in Batam, Indonesia.

In addition to its strategic mill locations in Cilegon and Batam, in 2015 Tenaris established a service center with BP in Sorong to provide real time local support and assistance for offshore projects. With commercial offices located in the Senayan area in central Jakarta, Tenaris offers local and overseas customers product excellence and a broad selection of services designed to work flexibly and reliably with even the most demanding and dynamic oil and gas business needs.

Our strategy towards carbon neutrality

In 2021, Tenaris set a medium-term target to reduce the CO₂ intensity of our operations by 30% by 2030, compared to a 2018 baseline. We are pursuing this target by using a higher proportion of recycled steel scrap in the metallic mix and by making investments to increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in our energy requirements.
