For the second year in a row, Tenaris has been recognized as one of Canadian National Railway’s EcoConnexions Partners for its sustainability leadership. The CN EcoConnexions Partnership Program recognizes those customers who have reduced their carbon emissions and increased their energy efficiency by converting from truck to rail shipments.
According to CN, moving freight by rail instead of truck lowers greenhouse gas emissions by 75 percent. In Canada, over 90 percent of Tenaris’s inbound transportation comes from rail transport.
“Rail transport is an important part of our Rig Direct™ offering. That’s why our long-term commitment with CN is important in continuing to leverage efficient transportation options to meet our customer’s needs,” said Wenceslao Pigretti, Supply Chain Director for Tenaris in Canada. “It’s great that our relationship with CN and use of rail has made a positive environmental impact that extends to our customers.”
To commemorate the efforts of the 32 companies, CN will plant 100,000 trees. To date, CN has planted over 210,000 trees as a part of this program, focusing planting in areas that have been devastated by natural disasters to assist in rehabilitating agricultural land and prevent soil erosion.
