Tenaris has developed a new threaded and coupled connection, the latest of its renowned TenarisHydril Wedge series, that offers high torque perfomance and superior runnability for shale applications.
The TenarisHydril Wedge XP™ connection provides exceptional over-torque performance needed in many production strings typically used in horizontal shale wells. The connection’s torque capacity is achieved thanks to the robustness of the TenarisHydril Wedge thread design combined with a pin-to-pin backup mechanism.
The connection maximizes value for oil and gas operators by reducing running times and significantly decreasing rejects and re-makeups. The make-up indicator allows for visual confirmation of acceptable make-up position, eliminating the need for a torque-turn chart which in turn improves the speed of installation.
“Our customers are focused on gaining efficiencies in their operations and we are responding to this with new products. We have developed a more sophisticated connection that delivers the torque strength customers need to reach the longer laterals they’re drilling today,” said Luca Zanotti, Tenaris Vice President and Managing Director, USA.
Tenaris has conducted field tests of the Wedge XP™ connection in shale plays in the U.S. and Argentina with results that reinforced the connection’s extra torque capabilities, smooth runnability, and compression efficiency.
