Tenaris’s industrial facility in Colombia, became the first company in the Caribbean region of Colombia to receive the Silver Seal of the Equipares Program for its commitment to promote gender equality. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos recognized the achievement in a ceremony held during International Women's Day on March 8.
Equipares is a certification program that recognizes companies that take actions to close the labor gap between men and women. This is an initiative led by the Colombian Ministry of Labor, the Presidential Council for Equality of Women and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
"This achievement is a recognition of the actions that the company has been developing, which contribute not only to achieve equal opportunities and treatment at work but also to improve our work environment, the professional development of our people and the increased productivity of our business," said Ricardo Prosperi, President of Tenaris for the Andean Region, during the award ceremony.
Equipares has three levels of recognition. The first one was awarded to Tenaris in August 2016 to certify its good practices and international standards in gender equality. To obtain the Silver Seal, which is the second level, the company went through an external audit that evaluated the progress achieved in an Action Plan that had been previously defined.
