In 2015, Eni, an Italian multinational oil and gas company, announced it was intending to produce gas in the Zohr offshore field, the largest of its type in the Mediterranean, just a few years after its discovery. Many skeptics said this was a “mission impossible”. However, by the end of 2017, the company proudly announced the “first-gas” coming out of this field. (See Eni's press release here).
Tenaris, became a strategic partner in this feat with Petrobel, a joint venture between the Italian-Egyptian Oil Company (IEOC) and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC), supporting Eni’s vision with high- specification line pipe products manufactured through its cohesive industrial system and delivered in sync with the customer’s operations.
From the very beginning, Tenaris understood the challenge and exceeded the customers’ expectations in terms of compliance of technical product specifications and timely delivery. Considered an “ultra fast track” project as it took slightly over a year between the discovery of the field and the beginning of production, Tenaris supplied seamless pipes to build a 230 km line with 8” pipes with 3LPP and another 230 km line with 14” pipes with Sour Service products and bends and buckle arrestors for the first phase of the project.
