Tenaris Prudential facility welcomes Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, toured Tenaris’s Prudential welded pipes facility in Calgary today and spoke about links between Canadian manufacturing and the country’s energy sector. She explained how the Federal government prioritizes trade and supports resource development to create a favorable environment for Canadian manufacturing.

“We worked closely together in our fight to get 232 tariffs on Canadian steel lifted. I am delighted we succeeded thanks to our united and collective effort,” said Freeland. “It was really a great moment to be here today; meet some of the people doing those jobs that getting those tariffs lifted were so personally important for,” she added.

Minister Freeland touched on several topics including the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the lifting of U.S. steel tariffs, strengthening Canada’s trade remedy system, and the approval of the TransMountain Pipeline and LNG Canada.

Guillermo Moreno, President of Tenaris Canada, welcomed the Minister and guests, and expressed how vital manufacturing and energy sectors are to Canada.

“As a leading global manufacturer of steel pipes for oil and gas development, Tenaris is committed to serving Canada’s energy industry with products manufactured right here in Canada,” Moreno said. “We go the extra kilometre for our customers, and are happy to see the Federal government doing the same for our industries.”

To reinforce that commitment, Tenaris and the Federal government recently announced a $36 million investment in two facilities across Canada. With $16 million coming from the government’s Strategic Innovation Fund, the investment will improve Tenaris's steel pipes production capabilities.

To support these initiatives across Canada, Tenaris participates in The Canadian Chamber of Commerce Resources of the Future initiative, and is an active member of The Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Petroleum Services Association of Canada and the Canadian Steel Producers Association.
