Tenaris names 2017 Matagorda Student of the Year

On January 19, Tenaris awarded Dawson Friesenhahn, a senior at Bay City High School, with the fourth annual Tenaris Student of the Year award at the Bay City Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture annual banquet. The award includes a college scholarship of $60,000.

Friesenhahn is currently ranked at the top of his graduating class. He was recognized as a National Merit Scholar and a 2015-2016 NASA Texas High School Aerospace Scholar. He also plays for the Bay City High School soccer team and participates in the band, speech, debate and theater organizations. He plans to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M University.

Tenaris created the scholarship in 2014 in an effort to recognize Matagorda County high school students for their accomplishments and support their goals to further their education. Previous winners include Bay City High School graduates Ariel Jimenez (2014), Brian Whitley (2015) and Palacios High School graduate Serena Zamarripa (2016). This year, Tenaris also awarded four finalists $500 to be used towards school books their first year.

Since 2013, Tenaris has invested more than $1.4 million in education in Matagorda County, including $454,600 in scholarships benefitting 22 students. “Education is the cornerstone of our community relations efforts around the world, and we are proud to bring this initiative to the home of TenarisBayCity,” said Luca Zanotti, Vice President and Managing Director for Tenaris, USA.
