Five years after Tenaris and the Colombian government signed an agreement of intent to promote employment equality the company has been awarded the Equipares Gold Seal, the highest distinction in this field.
"This award is a major source of pride for us as it shows the progress we have made in creating equitable spaces to allow our employees to develop and grow," says Vicente Manjarrez, President of Tenaris for the Andean region.
The Equipares Employment Equity Seal is a certification program for gender equality management systems which aims to encourage organizations to reduce inequality in the workplace.
Tenaris has been working to level the playing field in recruitment and selection processes, promotion and professional development, training, remuneration and salary, reconciling the family life-work balance with joint responsibility, among others equality topics.
One of the milestones in the accreditation process occurred in 2015 when Tenaris brought onboard 91 female operators at the coupling plant, a first for the company in Colombia. By 2019, the female participation rate at Tenaris in the country stood at 15%, with 84 of these in administrative positions and 87 in operational roles.
"I'd like to point out the TenarisUniversity program, an initiative designed to offer men and women equal training opportunities for development," says Alejandro Pacheco, the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Colombia.
