Shellie Clark, Vice President of Commercial for Tenaris in Canada discussed the company’s commitment to domestic manufacturing, and its environment, social and governance (ESG) initiatives at the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) two-day workshop in Calgary, Canada, November 10-12.
The workshop, of which Tenaris was a sponsor, examined the latest learnings inside the Montney and Duvernay formations (Western Canada), which according to the SPE are positioned to lead the world in sustainable and responsible oil and gas production.
Clark participated in the event’s final panel called Strategies for success in a changing and competitive market. “At Tenaris, we aim to strengthen supply predictability for our customers by focusing on domestic production. With our investments in Ontario, 90% of our Canadian demand can be met domestically,” said Clark.
Panelist discussed their respective organizations’ stance on development plans, capital efficiencies and lowering of emissions. Participants also shared their thoughts on the current commodity prices, global supply chain challenges, technology and operational considerations, and the importance of responsible development of unconventional energy sources.
"ESG is not only a producer concern, but suppliers are also sometimes overlooked. With that, we [Tenaris] have a responsibility to communicate our commitment to ESG and I encourage producers to ask their suppliers how their supplier's ESG policies can enrich their own classifications," shared Clark.
Earlier this year, Tenaris announced its target to lower its carbon intensity by 30% by 2030.
