Tenaris kickstarted the new academic year in Indonesia with the groundbreaking of a computer lab at SD Kotasari, a primary school near Tenaris facilities in Indonesia, and donations for Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and Rawa Arum residents.
Investing in education is a cornerstone value and focus of Tenaris’s community relations support in the areas where it operates. In his opening remarks at the groundbreaking in Rawa Arum, Arif Teguh Raharjo, plant senior manager, mentioned Tenaris's commitment is to positively impact the surrounding community through initiatives such as these. "Our focus is on supporting the improvement of education in Rawa Arum, Cilegon City, which is aligned with the vision of the Cilegon government. Every year, we provide educational assistance and scholarships for students in Cilegon. Last year, we built a lab in Tegalwangi, and we are now building one at SD Kotasari to support students' learning," explained Raharjo.
Tenaris invested $13,000 USD for the construction of the computer lab and will be making a donation to the junior high school in Cilegon this year. The company also awarded scholarships to 187 students from the junior high to university level to help them advance their studies
Besides the computer lab, in the same week, Tenaris in Indonesia donated $7,252 USD in food supplies to the orphans and underprivileged communities surrounding Rawa Arum through the local youth organization, Karang Taruna Rawa Arum, and $8,050 USD to the 34 SMEs to support their sustainable operations.
