Tenaris has been selected by Equinor, in name of the BM-C-33 consortium, to supply 83,000 tons of 22 and 24 high-grade welded line pipe, tubular accessories, and services for the gas export line of the BMC-33 block, operated by Equinor as part of a consortium with Repsol Sinopec and Petrobras.

Located in the southern part of the Campos Basin, approximately 200km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, with water depths of up to 2,900m, the BM-C-33 block comprises three different Pre-Salt discoveries Pão de Açúcar, Gávea and Seat that hold estimated natural oil and gas reserves of more than one billion barrels of oil equivalent.

With start of production expected in 2028, the development of BM-C-33 will be based on a FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) vessel that will process natural gas for sale without the need for further treatment onshore. Gas will be exported through a 200km export pipeline connecting the FPSO vessel to Cabiúnas, in the city of Macaé. The gas volumes from BM-C-33 can represent up to 15% of the total gas demand in Brazil.

For this project, Tenaris will leverage its integrated One Line™ pipeline management services, with coating, accessories, and logistics. Those include the application of a three-layer polypropylene anticorrosion coating (3LPP), internal flow coat to improve the flow of gas, and the application of an anti-buoyancy concrete coating (CWC) in approximately 120km of the pipes.

Additionally, Tenaris will provide sacrificial anodes, buckle arrestors, all delivered directly to the customer. The ultra-deep water portion of the pipeline, which represents approximately 35% of the volume, will have enhanced collapse capacity. The contract will have approximately 90% local content and thereby create substantial employment and value in Brazil.

"We are very proud of having been selected by Equinor to be part of this milestone project for Brazil. BM-C-33 will be the first project in the country to treat gas offshore and directly connect to the national grid without further onshore processing. We will further streamline production by manufacturing the line pipe at our mill in Pindamonhangaba" says Renato Catallini, Tenaris President in Brazil.
