Originally from Bahia and now based in Aracaju, capital of Brazil’s Sergipe state, Technical Sales Engineer Pedro Gil Martins de Oliveira brings a strategic blend of technical expertise and customer focus to oil and gas operations.
His name carries a musical legacy. His parents named him and his sister, Nara, in tribute to Gilberto Gil, one of Brazil’s most iconic musicians. In one of Gil’s most famous songs, Aquele Abraço, he sings that “Bahia already gave me ruler and compass” or, more directly, that Bahia gave him all the aces. Building on that foundation, Pedro added charisma and carved out a career path that’s uniquely his.
Before joining Tenaris, Pedro built a 15-year career in the oil and gas industry, backed by technical training in chemistry and petroleum production, a degree in database technology, and an MBA in sales and business management. His early roles in drilling and processing operations gave him hands-on experience, but it was during a career pause that he redefined his trajectory. Working as a ride-share driver while attending night classes in Salvador, he remained focused on long-term growth.
In September 2023, after nearly two years of preparation and career planning, Pedro joined Tenaris as a Field Services Engineer to help launch sucker rod services in Brazil. Working directly with customers, he supported inspections, assembly, and field testing, adapting solutions to the specific challenges of mature fields.
“Much of it was new to me and, in several respects, to the company as well,” Pedro highlights. “Understanding the local dynamics from the ground up demanded more than technical expertise. It called for a wider business perspective, which proved critical as I transitioned into a commercial position.”
Just a few months later, he stepped into a broader role as a Technical Sales Engineer, expanding his scope to include Colombia. He quickly became involved in cross-border projects, supporting customers with high-temperature applications and new technologies that could later serve as benchmarks for Brazil.
Spanish, which he hadn’t spoken before joining Tenaris, soon became part of his daily work, along with the challenge of translating technical knowledge into clear, value-driven communication.
“When I sit down with a client, I’m not guessing,” he says. “I’ve been there. I understand what they’re describing, and that helps me suggest solutions that work.”
Today, Pedro manages the full customer journey for the sucker rod solutions in both countries. His responsibilities include product specification, performance monitoring, data analysis, sales strategy support, and technical training. He works closely with local teams, adapting solutions to each region’s needs and staying connected to daily field activities.
“Each location is different. Colombia tends to be more standardized. In Brazil, especially in mature fields, there’s more variability,” he explains. “That’s where listening and flexibility really matter.”
Based on operational data and customer feedback, Pedro helped develop targeted training sessions to address specific field challenges. The result has been measurable improvements in performance and stronger client engagement.
By staying close to the customer, both in the field and throughout operations, Pedro reinforces Tenaris’s commitment to integrated service and long-term technical partnerships.
Outside of work, he finds balance through running and strength training. What began as a personal health goal became a passion, leading to a third-place finish in his age group at the Corrida das Estações, a road‑running series held each season across Brazil’s state capitals, featuring distances from 5 km to 21 km. “Running clears my mind,” he says. “It helps me reset.”
Family remains his strongest foundation. He credits his parents, Ana Miriam and Ailton, for shaping his values. His sister shares both his admiration for Gilberto Gil and his motivation to keep growing. “I tell her that everyone has their own pace,” he adds. “The important thing is to keep moving.”
As Tenaris expands its presence in strategic regions and deepens local partnerships, professionals like Pedro Gil are bringing field knowledge to the forefront of strategy and helping shape a smarter, more connected future for energy in the region.
