Tenaris has awarded more than $300,000 USD in Roberto Rocca scholarships to 60 high school seniors in Matagorda County, Texas, and Mississippi County, Arkansas, continuing its long-standing commitment to supporting education and youth development in the communities where it operates.
Now in its 12th year in Texas and 11th year in Arkansas, the Roberto Rocca Scholarship Program recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and commitment to community among local high school seniors. This year’s recipients were celebrated in separate ceremonies held at Tenaris’s Bay City facility and Arkansas Northeastern College.
Matagorda County, Texas
In Matagorda County, 15 high school seniors received scholarships totaling $196,000 USD. Meredith Williams of Bay City High School was named Student of the Year and awarded a $60,000 USD scholarship. Williams plans to study Business at the University of Alabama, with a minor in International Business and Spanish.
“As you go on to college and begin your careers, I encourage you to be curious, to take risks and uphold your integrity,” said Guillermo Moreno, Tenaris President for the US. "These are some of the attributes that we look for and instill in our employees at TenarisBayCity and around the world.”
Six students received $20,000 USD Merit Awards for their academic excellence and interest in STEM degrees, and eight others were recognized with runners-up scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000. Awardees came from Bay City High School, Palacios Junior Senior High School, and Van Vleck High School.
“I thank Tenaris for their continuous dedication to the enrichment of young adults in our district, and I can’t wait to see what these students do in the years to come,” said U.S. Congressman Troy E. Nehls.
Mississippi County, Arkansas
In Mississippi County, 45 high school seniors received scholarships totaling $112,000 USD. The top honor, a $20,000 USD Student of the Year scholarship, was awarded to Anna Claire Smith from Gosnell High School. Smith plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Harding University.
Four students were named runners-up, receiving $3,000 scholarships each, and 40 Merit Awards of $2,000 were distributed to students from high schools across the county, including Armorel, Blytheville, Gosnell, KIPP, Manila, Osceola, and Rivercrest.
Since the launch of the Roberto Rocca Scholarship Program, Tenaris has awarded 174 scholarships in Matagorda County, investing $3.8 million USD in educational initiatives since 2013. In Mississippi County, the company has granted 219 scholarships and invested $4.1 million USD in education-based programs in the region.
