Tenaris’s Bay City mill welcomed nine different US E&P operators for the company’s first OCTG Experience, a two-day workshop designed to share knowledge and expertise about steel pipes used in the energy sector. The 15 participants from ExxonMobil, Shell, Ascent, and TG Natural Resources, among others, also had the chance to visit Tenaris’s Houston-area threading facility.
“Events like this give us the chance to share knowledge with our customers and learn from their perspectives,” Laura Urrutia, Commercial Director – East, said. “Those exchanges spark the kind of innovation that helps us improve our systems and deliver new ways to create value at the rig site and across the industry."
Participants spent the first day at the seamless pipe facility, understanding the different steel grades and technical considerations when manufacturing OCTG, as well as seeing Tenaris’s production process firsthand. Afterwards, customers visited the company’s Houston-area threading facility for a hands-on exercise of pipe preparation services before the product is run in a well. They were also able to experience a live broadcast with Tenaris’s Field Services team from the company’s training rig in Veracruz, Mexico.
“This experience helped bridge the gap between being in the office and supporting the crews in the field,” said Brianna Diaz, Global Category Lead for OCTG and Line Pipe at Apache Corporation. “This gave me a better appreciation of all the work that’s done – what it takes to manufacture, transport, and prepare the pipe before it goes in ground. Having that hands-on experience, I’ll be able to better support my team.”
Tenaris plans to hold future editions of the workshop, looking to engage more US customers and deepen their understanding of the value OCTG brings to the energy market.
