Tenaris and WCJC celebrate 10th anniversary of Manufacturing Technology Program

Leaders from the state of Texas and Matagorda County joined Tenaris and Wharton County Junior College to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Manufacturing Technology Program. Formed in partnership between WCJC and Tenaris, the program was created to provide specialized training to local Matagorda County students, preparing them for careers in manufacturing and related industries.

“A quality education is crucial to the economic development of Texas,” State Representative AJ Louderback said during the ceremony. “This is monumental, it’s foundational, and I’m proud that programs like this exist in our state. We’re preparing Texans to meet the opportunities of the future.”

Since launching the first academic year in August 2015, the Manufacturing Technology Program has produced more than 50 graduates who received either a certificate or an Associate of Applied Science, some of which now work at Tenaris’s facility in Bay City.

“These types of partnerships are the lifeblood of our community. It’s a transformational investment,” Dr. Amanda Allen, Wharton County Junior College President, said. “It’s not enough to just train our students. We need to uphold our part of the bargain that, with this training, they will be able to get a high paying, skilled job. This is exactly what we need for our students.”

“We’re very proud to be able to help expand the skill sets available to our local workforce,” Hector Piñeda, Tenaris Operations Senior Director, said. “It’s clear this program is making a meaningful impact on our workforce and our community. We have seen this success through some of the graduates that have joined our team, and we hope to welcome even more.”
