Tenaris awarded tubular package for Cronos gas development in the Eastern Mediterranean

Tenaris will supply line pipe and OCTG solutions for the Cronos gas development offshore Cyprus. Tenaris

Tenaris has been awarded contracts to supply OCTG, line pipe and coating services for the Cronos gas development offshore Cyprus, operated by Eni in partnership with TotalEnergies.

Located in Block 6, Cronos will be developed through a fast-track approach leveraging existing regional infrastructure. Gas produced from the field will be transported to Egypt and processed before being liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant for export to international markets, primarily Europe.

The project will develop resources estimated at more than 3 trillion cubic feet (85 billion cubic meters) of gas, with production expected to reach a plateau of approximately 500 million standard cubic feet per day (14.2 million cubic meters). Start-up is planned for the first half of 2028.

For Tenaris, the award combines line pipe and OCTG solutions, drawing on the company’s integrated industrial and service capabilities to support both the transportation infrastructure and offshore drilling requirements of the project through a coordinated supply scope.

For the pipeline scope, Tenaris will supply seamless pipes for a 110-kilometer gas export pipeline and a monoethylene glycol (MEG) pipeline. The project will be executed under Tenaris’s One Line® service model, which integrates pipe manufacturing, coating and logistics in a comprehensive pipeline solution.

The seamless pipes will be manufactured at Tenaris’s Dalmine mill in Italy and supplied with buckle arrestors, as well as TenarisShawcor three-layer polypropylene (3LPP) anticorrosion coating applied at the company’s coating facility in Italy.

For the offshore drilling scope, Tenaris will supply all tubulars requirements. Part of the order will incorporate Dopeless® technology, Tenaris’s mill-applied multifunctional coating, designed to eliminate the need for thread compounds and simplify pipe handling and preparation while providing consistent lubrication during offshore running operations.

“This award demonstrates the strength of our integrated line pipe offering, combining seamless pipes, coating and specialized components through our One Line® service model to support the demanding requirements of the Cronos offshore development,” said Kevin Reizer, Commercial Vice President Pipelines & Services.

“Being selected to provide OCTG together with offshore line pipe for Cronos demonstrates the value of our integrated tubular offering and our ability to support customers across different stages of complex offshore developments. As Eni’s COO for Natural Resources stated during the ceremony, it is a source of pride to see ‘European gas, developed by European companies for the European market.’ This vision aligns closely with Tenaris’s footprint,” added Alessandro D’Angelo, Commercial Vice President for OCTG Europe, C.I.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Cronos represents the first development project in Cyprus and the country’s first hydrocarbon development. The project is expected to contribute to Cyprus’s emergence as a natural gas producer and exporter while reinforcing integration between energy infrastructure across the Eastern Mediterranean.
