A new milestone has been achieved by TenarisShawcor coating solutions with the application of 6” thermal insulation on a 6 5/8” pipe, marking the thickest glass syntactic polypropylene coating ever applied in a five-layer system.
This custom coated pipe will be used for a 44 km flowline of an offshore natural gas development in the Romanian sector of the Black Sea, with water depths of up to 3,280 ft.
The project’s deepwater conditions, low seabed temperatures and long-distance subsea tiebacks require high-performance thermal insulation systems to maintain gas temperature, prevent hydrate formation, and ensure stable flow over extended distances.
“As offshore field conditions become increasingly demanding, operators need solutions they can trust to ensure performance and reliability. Our first-of-its-kind insulation system, part of our One Line® project solutions, is designed to meet these challenges head-on by delivering superior thermal insulation and flow assurance under the toughest conditions. Given the small pipe diameter, extra thick insulation was necessary to minimize heat loss and ensure reliable gas transport from the subsea fields to shore,” explained Fernando Ulecia, Tenaris Pipeline & Services Managing Director for the Western Hemisphere. "This achievement reflects our commitment to supporting customers with innovative, dependable coating solutions that help them succeed, no matter how complex the project."
