Thirty students from prestigious technical universities in Romania received the Roberto Rocca Education Program (RREP) scholarship for their outstanding achievements. The program, now in its 15th edition in the country, is a Tenaris global initiative in support of technical education.
Given restrictions due to COVID-19 this year, the assessment process and award ceremony were held online. The Roberto Rocca scholarship includes financial support as well as training and mentoring programs organized by Tenaris.
“Being a part of RREP is the equivalent of a passport to a select world of science and technology,” says Cristian Doicin, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial and Robotics Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest.
The award ceremony was built around an eco-green theme with students discussing their take on sustainability concepts and day-to-day actions to contribute to the cause. Guest speaker - writer, director, producer and environmentalist Charlie Ottley, best known for Wild Carpathia and Flavours of Romania documentaries - joined in on the conversation on environment and sustainability, sharing insights and experiences.
"Together with the students and universities we want to build a vision of the industry of the future, which aims to be sustainable and with minimal impact on the environment," says Mihaela Popescu, Tenaris President for Romania. "We congratulate this year’s scholarship recipients and are confident they will continue on a path of excellence."
The event closed with an online team-building exercise for the students on how to prepare for an eco-green, sustainable future.
Since 2006, about 600 engineering students have benefited from Roberto Rocca scholarships offered by Tenaris in Romania. To learn more about Tenaris educational programs, click here.
