Tenaris brings history of Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, to life online via creation of photo library

An initiative of Tenaris and its global arts and culture projects partner, PROA Foundation, the online photo library honors Pindamonhangaba’s rich historical heritage.

The photo library program, named “Fototeca” was inaugurated in 2018 and has been operating at the Palacete 10 de Julho (July 10 Palace Center) in Pindamonhangaba in partnership with the local secretary of culture and tourism. Its recently launched website now makes a vast catalog of more than 4,600 digitized photos from the city hall historical collection easily available to the community, which was invited to participate in the virtual opening ceremony on July 21.

“We thank Tenaris for its support in a project that democratizes the access to our history and our culture. We are focusing on the modernization of processes and on the digitalization of our historical assets and Pindamonhangaba's photographic archive is another important step in that direction. This website is the perfect gift for this city, that this month celebrates its 316th anniversary,” said Dr. Isael Domingues, Pindamonhangaba Mayor.

As part of the educational programs related to the photo library, Tenaris has also launched a training course targeting 122 educators from local schools in Pindamonhangaba. The goal is to introduce the photo library as a didactic resource and to expand knowledge about the city.

“We believe in working hand in hand with the community in the creation of a long-term industrial project. The photo library is an important cultural initiative that was implemented in Pindamonhangaba because we understand that through this partnership with city hall we can foster culture, strengthen traditions and preserve the heritage of a city that is so important for Brazil and for Tenaris,” said Luiz Marcondes, Tenaris Human Resources Director in Brazil.

The Techint Group, which includes Tenaris, together with PROA Foundation, has also built photo libraries in Campana and San Nicolás, Argentina; Monterrey, Mexico; and Montevideo, Uruguay; with the aim of collecting and preserving the historic heritage of the cities where the company is present. Each photo library is the result of close, joint work with the local community and follows the lead taken by Fondazione Dalmine, which opened in 1999 next to Dalmine, Tenaris’s mill located in Bergamo, Italy.
