Equinor hosted today a celebration at Confab, Tenaris’s welded mill in Pindamonhangaba, Brazil, to commemorate the completion of steel pipe production for the Raia project, one of the most significant offshore energy developments in Brazil to date. The event brought together leaders and project teams from both companies, reflecting the strong collaboration that has driven the success of this endeavor.
The Raia project includes the construction of a 200-kilometer subsea gas pipeline that will link a next-generation FPSO in the Campos Basin to the gas network at the Cabiúnas terminal in Macaé. The project is expected to be operational in 2028.
This project received an investment of $9 billion USD investment and has recoverable reserves exceeding one billion barrels of oil equivalent. With a capacity to supply up to 16 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, the project has the potential to meet 15% of Brazil’s natural gas demand while setting new standards in operational efficiency and sustainability.
The pipes and coatings for the Raia pipeline, a total of 83,000 tons, were manufactured in Confab under our integrated One Line™ service . Pipes for the deepest sections of the pipeline incorporated advanced collapse-resistant designs, capable of withstanding water depths of up to 2,900 meters. Coating service includes internal coating to enhance gas flow, external anti-corrosion protection, and concrete layers for negative buoyancy and mechanical protection.
“Delivering a project of this scale requires exceptional collaboration and technical expertise. We are proud to support Equinor and its partners with our advanced pipe solutions, enabling the Raia pipeline to meet the highest performance standards,” said President of Tenaris in Brazil, Renato Catallini.
The collaboration between Tenaris and Equinor underscores the importance of working together to advance Brazil’s energy infrastructure. With over 99% of the pipeline’s steel sourced domestically, the Raia project supports the development of the local industry while creating up to 50,000 jobs over its lifecycle.
