Federal, provincial, and municipal officials joined Tenaris executives, customers, and employees, to mark the culmination of $150M CAD in investments in Sault Ste. “Our story in Canada has been one of commitment and continued growth, and today we are celebrating transformative investments in the latest chapter of what has been a journey that dates back two decades,” said Tenaris Chairman & CEO, Paolo Rocca. “We have enhanced our portfolio of made-in-Canada solutions to better serve domestic customers, providing an unparalleled security of supply and product diversity with a robust industrial system that is strengthened by our global capabilities.”

Joining Rocca at the ceremony was Tenaris President in Canada, Ricardo Prosperi, International Trade Minister Mary Ng; Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Labor, Terry Sheehan; Ontario Minister of Northern Development and Minister of Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford; MPP Ross Romano; and Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Christian Provenzano.

"Canadian steel pipe producers are an incredibly important part of the global circular economy and are leaders in best-practices and environmental stewardship. By investing in this project with Tenaris we will help strengthen the competitiveness of the steel sector, advance sustainable technology, and expand production capabilities to maintain Canada’s position in the global market. Our government is committed to stand with our workers and the innovative, world-class products they produce,” said the Honorable Mary Ng, International Trade Minister.

Tenaris appreciates the contributions and support from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments, and their related economic development agencies to help realize its investment project.

“By consolidating their pipe manufacturing operations in one convenient location, Tenaris is creating more opportunities for workers across the North,” said Minister of Northern Development and Minister of Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford. “Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, our government is supporting job creators like Tenaris across industrial sectors, reaffirming our commitment to build Ontario.”

The investments include a new premium threading line providing a full range of pipe connection threads, from API to premium, such as TenarisHydril Blue® and Wedge series, expanded capacity for sour service steel grades and new pipe diameters. The new electric resistance weld (ERW) pipe manufacturing line extends Tenaris’s product offer of welded pipe products with new steel grades, extended sizes, and premium connections. Safety, automation, and digitalization improvements were also integrated into the existing operations.

“The city is proud to have Tenaris in our community.  The last two years have been challenging for all Canadians, but Tenaris invested in its operations to better serve Canada’s energy industry.  We are pleased to have supported their investment,” said Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Christian Provenzano.

The company’s new pipe manufacturing hub, with a capacity to produce 220,000 tons of ERW and 400,000 tons of seamless OCTG, is supported by Tenaris’s threading facility in Nisku, AB, pipe service centres in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Newfoundland and Labrador, and served by its direct mill-to-customer rig logistics solutions known as Rig Direct®.

Tenaris’s commitment to serve the Canadian energy sector extends to its growing employee base, now a team of more than 600 in Sault Ste. Marie, and across its communities through a range of initiatives that promote technical education and award scholarships to generate greater interest in STEM related fields.

“Canada has the resources, and we are pleased to invest with our people to serve them. I look forward to celebrating future milestones as our journey in Canada continues,” added Rocca.
