AARK technology eliminates manual Anti-Rotational Key activation, reducing risk and increasing running speed. Tenaris
Tenaris supplied TenarisHydril BlueDock® connectors featuring Automated Anti-Rotational Key (AARK) technology, to support the installation of 30" conductor and 20" surface casing strings during a major offshore development project in deepwater conditions on the UK Continental Shelf.
Developed to improve both safety and operational performance, AARK provides fully automatic activation without the need for special tools or additional equipment. By preventing accidental connection back-off, the technology helps maintain connection integrity during complex offshore operations while simplifying running procedures and supporting faster installation times.
According to feedback shared by the tubular running services provider (TRS), the connections performed smoothly and the solution contributed to enabling a safer red zone on the rig floor.
The dual-derrick MODU used for the project introduced additional complexity by allowing drilling and casing assembly activities to take place simultaneously. In this environment, AARK provided an additional layer of reliability by preventing accidental back-out while casing strings were exposed to strong sea currents prior to installation. Representatives from Tenaris’ Field Service team were on-site to support all installations, which were completed smoothly, with no rejects recorded.
"This project reinforces the value of Tenaris’s large-diameter conductor and surface casing solutions, demonstrating clear benefits in safety, reliability and operational efficiency in challenging offshore environments," said Paolo Novelli, Technical Sales Regional Director at Tenaris
