Tenaris wins “game-changer” and “frontrunner” in sustainability distinctions in Romania

Tenaris has received national recognition in Romania for its sustainable performance during an event organized by The Diplomat, an English language media platform and event organizer for the country’s business community.

The Sustainability in Business Forum and Awards aims to recognize the sustainable vision and values, across various industries, and actions taken to meet the sustainability objectives at the national and European level. This year’s edition took place in Bucharest on June 9th, and was followed by the inaugural Sustainability Awards Gala, dedicated to acknowledging the commitment of companies, leaders, and projects in developing sustainable initiatives, supported by concrete facts and coherent actions. More than 50 companies were nominated as finalists in nine categories and the winners were chosen by an online public vote.

Tenaris was awarded the top honor in the “Game Changer in Sustainability” category and came in third as a “Sustainability Frontrunner in the Industry” for its work in creating a circular economy system at its mills in Romania, achieving  100 percent recovery of iron waste and in its reuse, reintroducing the scrap into its steel production at its Călărași plant or through other industries (read more about this subject here).

“Our challenge as a team is to foster a sustainable culture and we are actively contributing to creating a more sustainable environment,” said Anca Sălăjan, Health, Safety and Environment Director at Tenaris Silcotub mill in Zalau. “We aim to do more and to continuously develop innovative solutions for the use of natural resources and to encourage a mindset oriented towards recovery and recycling. We are actively practicing these concepts and the awards received serve as motivation to reach new objectives.”

The iron waste recovery and reuse project, together with the intelligent transport solution for reducing CO2 emissions, are part of Tenaris’s 2030 plan to reduce CO2 intensity of its operations by 30 percent.
