Tenaris hosted the panel discussion “Nuclear: the future of the Italian boilermaking industry” last week at Fondazione Dalmine in Italy, in partnership with UCC, the Italian association of boiler manufacturers.
The convention brought together experts from industry and institutions, including Ansaldo Nucleare, Politecnico di Milano, the Italian Nuclear Association (AIN), and ICIM (Istituto di Certificazione Industriale per la Meccanica). Discussions centered on the strategic role of nuclear energy in Europe’s energy transition, with a focus on Italy’s potential to strengthen its manufacturing base in the sector.
With nuclear energy positioned as a key driver of Europe’s decarbonization and energy security, participants highlighted the evolving portfolio of nuclear technologies – from conventional to advanced small modular reactors. They focused on advances in safety, production innovation, as well as the importance of aligning Italy’s industrial capabilities with the European and international standards.
"Entering the nuclear supply chain means going beyond product performance," said Matteo Ortolani, Senior Product Manager for Power Generation and Structural at Tenaris Tenaris
This year, Tenaris’s mill in Italy obtained accreditation to supply certified materials for the construction of nuclear facilities designed in accordance with the ASME III standard, meeting the industry’s highest technical and quality requirements.
“Entering the nuclear supply chain means going beyond product performance. It requires a dedicated quality culture, complete traceability, and specialized procedures that align with the most rigorous international codes,” said Matteo Ortolani, Senior Product Manager for Power Generation and Structural at Tenaris. “To meet these requirements, we developed a nuclear-specific quality manual in line with applicable standards and trained our teams to uphold the sector’s strictest expectations.”
As Europe reaffirms its commitment to nuclear energy in the path to decarbonization, Tenaris is ready to support utilities and EPCs worldwide with metallurgical expertise, reliable manufacturing, and a long-term commitment to safety and quality.
