Tenaris publishes new Environmental Product Declaration for seamless pipes

Tenaris has certified an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for its seamless steel pipes, reinforcing its commitment to transparency and sustainability across its global operations. The EPD, issued by the Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V. (IBU) in Germany, provides independently verified data on the environmental performance of Tenaris’s seamless pipe production.

This declaration is based on 2022 data collected across seven Tenaris mills: Koppel, Ambridge and Bay City in the U.S., Dalmine in Italy, Siderca in Argentina, Silcotub in Romania, and Tamsa in Mexico. The seven sites include Tenaris’s five steelmaking shops and their associated rolling mills. The declaration is based on a declared unit of one metric ton of Tenaris seamless steel tubes, representing the average product manufactured, considering a "cradle to gate" approach (from raw materials preparation to customers’ gate).

The lifecycle assessment complies with EN 15804+A2 and ISO 14025 standards and includes emissions, energy and resource use, and end-of-life recycling potential. According to the EPD, Tenaris’s seamless steel pipes are made with an average recycled steel content of 79%, and up to 74% of the material is recycled at end-of-life, confirming status of steel as a permanent, fully recyclable material.

“This new EPD reflects the rigorous work our teams carry out across all regions to measure and improve the environmental performance of our products,” says Carolina Bengochea, Tenaris Environment Global Director. “The certification is a statement of our commitment to transparency, circularity, and continuous progress on the path to decarbonization.”

Tenaris’s manufacturing processes are aligned with leading environmental standards, with 86% of its production facilities certified under ISO 14001 for environmental management and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety.

The newly published EPD is valid through June 2030 and available on the IBU's official platform. It serves as a valuable resource for customers seeking reliable, standardized environmental data to support their own sustainability goals and regulatory compliance.

Tenaris has previously issued EPDs for its seamless pipes for power generation and large vessels applications , its OCTG, offshore and onshore line pipe products and structural tubes for offshore and onshore applications.

The Environmental Product Declarations are verified on an annual basis, updated in case of any significant change in the environmental performance and certified by an external body. EPDs comply with the rules of the International EPD® System and meet the requirements of ISO 14025.
