Five graduates of the Roberto Rocca Technical Gene program in Colombia have joined TuboCaribe, Tenaris’s seamless steel mill in Cartagena. Focused on quality technical education and preparing students to meet the current demands of the industry, Technical Gene is one of Tenaris’s key educational initiatives.
In Colombia, the program is offered at the Bertha Suttner Technical High School in Cartagena. In partnership with the Colombian National Learning Service (SENA), it provides both theoretical and practical training, including STEM methodology and a project-based learning approach.
“The incorporation of students trained in our Technical Gene program into Tenaris is a major achievement that reflects our commitment to education and professional development. We celebrate the arrival of young talent, equipped with the best tools to drive innovation and strengthen the future of the industry,” explained Francisco Ruiz, Tenaris Human Resources Senior Director for the Andean region.
Belquis Picó, who graduated from the program in industrial mechanics, now works as a roughing and coupling deburring operator. “From day one, I prepared myself for this opportunity,” she said. “Having had the chance to train on pneumatic, hydraulic and conventional lathe stations, along with the knowledge shared by the instructors, was a huge advantage.”

For David Márquez, also a roughing and coupling deburring operator, joining Tenaris was a big step. “It’s an opportunity to improve both my quality of life and my family’s, to learn and to pursue my dream of studying industrial engineering,” he shared.
Daniel Ortega, now a cutting and finishing operator, is passionate about technology. “Tenaris offers me a broad opportunity to expand my knowledge, work in different areas and maybe even become an engineer in the future,” he noted. “What I liked most about the induction process was the emphasis on doing things right from the start. I value quality and appreciate how much the company cares about the health and safety of its employees.”
“I like to learn quickly and try new things. I adapt easily, and I’ll do my best to be proactive in everything I do because I know I’ll grow professionally at Tenaris,” added Rosalba López, another roughing and coupling deburring operator who graduated the program.
Luis Hernández, also working in roughing and coupling deburring, said he feels privileged to have been part of Technical Gene. “I learned not to give up, to be persistent, to open new doors and to set high expectations. Being at Tenaris today is an inspiring achievement to keep moving forward,” he concludes.
