Solar park at Sabbio facility Italy
Tenaris has completed the installation of two new photovoltaic plants at its Sabbio Bergamasco and Arcore facilities in Italy, further contributing towards Tenaris’s target to reduce CO₂ emissions by 30% by 2030, compared to 2018 levels.
“This project, which includes two photovoltaic plants with a combined peak capacity of 10 MW and an investment of approximately €10 million, is part of a broader roadmap that combines initiatives already implemented with new projects planned for the coming years,” said Michele Della Briotta, President of Tenaris Europe. “Over the next three years, we expect to further expand our renewable energy production in Italy by adding further photovoltaic plants.”
The photovoltaic plant in Sabbio Bergamasco has an installed capacity of approximately 5 MW, with 100% of the energy produced expected to be used at our adjacent Dalmine mill. The Arcore plant also has an installed capacity of around 5 MW, with approximately 70% to 75% of the energy produced expected to be self-consumed. Both plants were connected to the national electricity grid in June.
The plants were designed with a focus on sustainable land use. In Sabbio Bergamasco, the photovoltaic facility was developed by repurposing an existing storage area, while in Arcore the installation was carried out on rooftops, an approach that could be replicated in future initiatives to make use of existing spaces without additional land consumption.
The initiative adds to Tenaris’s investments in renewable energy production in Europe and across its global industrial network. These investments include a solar energy plant at our Silcotub steel mill in Romania, two wind farms in Argentina , and a photovoltaic plant in China .
