AOG 2025: Tenaris reinforces its commitment to the development of Vaca Muerta

“Argentina has the potential to become a major player in the global oil market,” said Andrea Previtali, Tenaris President for the Southern Cone, during the Talk with the CEOs panel at the Argentina Oil & Gas expo held last week in Buenos Aires.

Sharing the stage with leaders from SLB, Halliburton and Calfrac, Previtali outlined how Tenaris has strengthened its role in developing Vaca Muerta, one of the world’s largest shale gas reservoirs, by expanding beyond tubular technologies to offer integrated oilfield services. He said those capabilities are key to supporting Argentina’s goal of producing 1.5 million barrels of oil per day by 2030.

“Five years ago, we decided to enter the services market, backed by our industrial know-how,” Previtali said. “What did we do to become so competitive in such a short time? Tenaris manufactures steel tubes in cycle times of seconds, so one of our first steps was to send our engineers to study fracturing operations and identify opportunities for improvement. Today we offer a strong, reliable service that has expanded the hydraulic fracturing capacity across the basin.”

Previtali also shared Tenaris’s upcoming plans, including adding a third hydraulic fracturing fleet and a third coiled tubing unit, along with the launch of a new integrated solution for surface casing construction, presented during the expo by Constantino Espinosa, Director of Digital Technical Services at Tenaris.

The new turnkey solution will cover pipe supply and drilling, mud services, surface casing installation, casing cementing, as well as the supply of bits and wireline, ensuring well integrity, verticality and aquifer isolation. Available by late 2026, it will include the operation of a one-of-a-kind spudder rig in Argentina.

“This project was designed for Vaca Muerta,” Espinosa said. “Our new surface casing construction solution will increase the basin’s expansion capacity and contribute to accelerating the development of Vaca Muerta.” He addressed an audience that included representatives from operators and companies across the oil and gas industry’s value chain.

Tenaris representatives also took part in the 5th Well Perforation, Completion and Intervention Latin American Congress, organized by the Argentine Institute of Oil and Gas (IAPG) under the AOG framework, presenting the following technical papers:
