Tenaris begins construction of second wind farm in Argentina

The construction phase of Tenaris’s second wind farm in Argentina has started. La Rinconada, located in Olavarría, in the province of Buenos Aires, will feature 21 wind turbines and a total installed capacity of 94.5 megawatts. Following a $214 million USD investment, it is expected to become operational by the end of 2025.

Once operational, Tenaris's two wind farms will produce renewable energy to cover the electricity needs of Siderca, its seamless pipe manufacturing facility in Campana. Buena Ventura, the company’s first wind farm worldwide, is located in Adolfo Gonzales Chaves, also in the Buenos Aires Province, and was launched in 2023 .

"We estimate that the La Rinconada wind farm will allow us to reduce CO₂ emissions by about 100,000 tons per year through its 21 wind turbines vs 2018, each with a capacity of 4.5 megawatts," said Andrea Previtali, Tenaris President for the Southern Cone.

The new wind farm in Olavarría will contribute 400 gigawatt-hours of electricity annually to the grid, with an estimated capacity factor of 54.5%. With the construction of its first two wind farms, Tenaris will have invested more than $400 million USD over four years in renewable energy in Argentina to reduce its environmental footprint and advance its decarbonization efforts.

This project is one of several that Tenaris has deployed across its global manufacturing network to reduce its carbon footprint. Other initiatives include a new Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) with Consteel® technology for cleaner steelmaking in Argentina, a new electric induction coil in Colombia , and solar power generation projects in China , Italy, and Romania .
