Brava Energia chooses Tenaris for casing drilling projects in Brazil

Brava Energia has successfully completed its first two casing drilling projects in the Alto do Rodrigues Field, located in Brazil’s Potiguar Basin. With support from Tenaris, two vertical wells were drilled to about 380 meters without incidents, reducing total operation time and costs compared to conventional drilling. The project also marked the first casing drilling operation for production casing in Brazil.

Casing drilling significantly reduces costs and saves time by combining drilling and casing installation in a single run. Tenaris has developed a package of products and services to enhance the reliability of these operations for its Rig Direct® customers.

Representatives from Brava Energia’s Drilling Engineering and Tenaris’s Technical Sales teams provided comprehensive support throughout the project, from the planning phase onward. They conducted in-depth torque, drag, and fatigue simulations to rigorously assess the feasibility of the operation. The drilling strings incorporated TXP® BTC connections, a well-established choice for casing drilling in Argentina. Additionally, pipe lengths were precisely tailored to align with the rig’s specific operational requirements.

“We appreciate the hard contribution from the drilling engineering team of Brava Energia and Tenaris’s technical team for the commitment and good results” said Franklin Romero, Well Construction General Manager at Brava Energia.

“This achievement is a great example of how Tenaris is contributing to the development of Brazil’s onshore market by bringing field-proven solutions to the region. It marks the culmination of nearly three years of dedicated work, including technical discussions with Brava Energia, rig visits, and benchmarking with operations in Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina. Collaboration between teams in Brazil and Argentina was key to delivering these results,” highlighted Roque Ivaldi, Tenaris Oil and Gas Commercial Senior Director in Brazil.

“We are leveraging our expertise in OCTG performance to enhance operational reliability in a market where cost optimization is essential. We’re excited to bring our extensive experience to Brazil, built on years of supporting casing drilling operations in Argentina,” added Ivaldi.

"We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with the Brava Energia team on this project. We value their commitment to exploring innovative solutions in the onshore sector, and the trust they’ve placed in Tenaris to support their vision,” said Renato Catallini, President of Tenaris in Brazil.

Following the positive outcome of these first two wells, Brava Energia will adopt this drilling technique for upcoming campaigns in the Estreito and Alto do Rodrigues fields.
