Two strings with Dopeless® technology were successfully installed in the Búzios offshore field, operated by Petrobras in Brazil’s Pre-Salt region. These operations marked the first use of Tenaris’s dope-free solution for large-diameter connectors, completing the Dopeless® offering for the entire well. This achievement reinforces Tenaris’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of E&P operations and to enabling a safer red zone on the rig floor.
The first installation included a 36” conductor casing string featuring TenarisHydril BlueDock® connectors with Dopeless® technology, along with automatic anti-rotational keys (AARK) enabling hands-free activation for safer and more efficient operations. Following its successful running, an 18” surface casing string, also using Dopeless® technology for its connectors, was deployed a few weeks later in another well in the same field.
Representatives from Tenaris Technical Sales and Field Service teams were on-site to support both installations, which were completed smoothly, with no rejects or re-makeups recorded.
With more than 20 years as the leading dope-free solution in the market, Dopeless® technology enables safer and more efficient offshore tubular running operations through the use of a mill-installed coating that renders superfluous the use and application of dopes for storage and running. First deployed in the Norwegian North Sea in 2003, it has since been used in more than 60 countries, totaling over 74 million feet.
